How to Apply for Beam Time

In order to get your beam time scheduled at TSL irradiation facilities, please download the Beam Time Request form, fill it in, and send it to beams@tsl.uu.se

The beam time request may refer to a single irradiation campaign or to several campaigns over a longer period. The long-term requests are processed at four occasions per year, on January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15. Please meet the deadline in order to get a beam time slot convenient for you. Requests on a shorter notice are treated on a first-come-first-served basis, if any beam time remains unscheduled. Normally, within two business days you may expect our feedback to your beam-time request, together with our scheduling suggestion. For pricing, discounts, and invoicing procedures, see TSL beam time pricing policy.

The existing beam time allocations can viewed at the Beam time schedule page. During most of the time, 35 weeks per year, the Gustaf Werner cyclotron at TSL produces 180-MeV proton beam. During daytime (9:00 – 18:00), the beam time is shared between the Irradiation Facilities in the Blue Hall (~2/3 of the time) and the proton therapy activities (~1/3 of the time), as regulated in an agreement with Uppsala University Hospital. Upon request of Irradiation Facilities customers, beam time in single-user mode (non-shared beam with 100% availability) can be scheduled from 18:00 until 7:00 next day, or for a part of this time. The following beams are available at the Irradiation Facilities during the “therapy weeks”::
Atmospheric-like / white / spallation neutron beam at the ANITA facility (“Atmospheric-like Neutrons from thIck TArget”)
Quasi-monoenergetic neutrons (QMN) with the peak energy of 175 MeV,
Monoenergetic protons with the energy of 180 MeV.

During non-therapy weeks, more beam modes are available:
Quasi-monoenergetic neutrons (QMN) with any peak energy in 20-175 MeV range,
Monoenergetic protons with any energy in 20-180 MeV range,
Heavy ions, from deuterium to argon.

For further details, see the list of available particle beams. If you already submitted your Beam Time Request, you do not need to resubmit it unless it needs to be updated. When the beam time is scheduled, the project leader is asked to fill in the Run Rules form and send it to beams@tsl.uu.se, not later than 4 weeks prior to the irradiation campaign. Irradiation projects at TSL are governed by General regulation for commissioned activities at Uppsala University.
