TSL Beamtime Request

tsl logotype

Scientists and others interested in using the TSL facilities in their research and irradiation projects are recommended to contact the Coordinator, Professor Curt Ekström (phone: +46-(0)18-4713112, e-mail: curt.ekstrom@tsl.uu.se).

The proton therapy activities at TSL are regulated through an agreement between Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital. Currently, 35 weeks per year are used daytime with 180 MeV protons. During these weeks other projects may be run in beam sharing daytime, and as single users evenings and nights. The remaining weeks may be devoted to other running modes, like protons at lower energies and heavy ions. Also time is set aside for service. When running the neutron-beam facilities for quasimonoenergetic neutrons and white neutrons (ANITA) the proton beams are used for the neutron production.

In order to run a project at TSL, a beam-time request has to be sent to the Coordinator. The request may refer to a single run or to several runs over a longer period. Beam-time requests will be treated at four occasions per year with dead-lines January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15. The requests will be evaluated by the TSL management for eventual approval, fully or partly, by the Director. If approved, the project will be assigned an "Experiment code" and a certain amount of beam-time (8-hour shifts) will be allocated.

In connection with the beam-time request we refer to the documents on TSL beam-time pricing policy and General regulation for commissioned activities at Uppsala University.
The status of active projects concerning allocation and usage of beam-time shifts can be found under Beam-time schedule .
When beam-time has been scheduled for a project, the group should fill in a "run form", with some basic information for the preparation of the run. Some persons to be responsible for technical issues and for radiation protection must be appointed. The "run form" should be sent in to TSL 4 weeks before the run.
